Terreal, a major European player in building envelope construction

For over 150 years, Terreal has been a benchmark player in clay building materials. Its aim is to enhance the value of our territories every day, and to promote sustainable, aesthetic and functional housing that respects people and the environment. The group designs complete building envelope systems based on its traditional know-how in terracotta coupled with a modern range of solutions and services, particularly in solar energy.

The company, which specializes in clay roof tiles, posted sales of 693 million euros in 2021 (with the acquisition of tile manufacturer Creaton) and employs over 3,400 people worldwide. To continue innovating and adapting to local needs, Terreal aims to position itself as a local expert on an international scale.

Choosing Aquiweb MES Software

In 2020, Terreal launched an ambitious digital transformation project for its industrial sites, starting with a pilot line at the Colomiers site, the success of which conditioned the continuation of the project. Since then, 4 sites have been equipped, with a further 10 to come by 2024.

The projects consist of:

• Performance
• Qualification of scrap in various process zones
• Quality control at workstations

Irrespective of the site (roof tiles or bricks), the production areas taken into account in the projects are globally the Earth supply and the monitoring of production lines; with the following equipment for each line: “Shaping/Manufacturing”, “Stacking”, “Unstacking”. Equipment data is retrieved via exchanges with PLCs using the OPC protocol.

The project does not include an exchange with the ERP. Depending on the production zone, reference changes are made manually from Aquiweb or automatically from PLC information retrieval.
